What makes Washington yards different

On November 17, 2013, an EF4 tornado touched down in Marquette Heights and did its worst damage in Washington, according to the National Weather Service. In the neighborhoods that were rebuilt, many yards were started over from bare ground, with new grading, new lawns and young trees.

A decade on, those yards have their own needs: young trees that need structural pruning, lawns over construction-compacted soil, and landscaping that was put in quickly during the rebuild and is ready for a real plan. Older parts of town near the historic square have the opposite: mature trees, shade and established beds.

Good to know

Washington rules are not Peoria’s rules

Washington is its own city in Tazewell County, so City of Peoria yard waste rules don’t apply. Check yard waste pickup and any permit requirements with the City of Washington before a big cleanup or project. We’ll ask about it when we price the job.

Before any digging, utilities get marked through JULIE (811).
