Leaf Removal in Peoria, IL

Peoria’s big oaks and maples drop leaves from October into late November. We clear lawns, beds and gutters-level debris, then bag them for city pickup or haul them away, before the season’s last yard waste collection in December.

Leaf removal options

  • Blow and rake lawns and beds
  • Bag to city rules for curb pickup
  • Haul-away so nothing sits at the curb
  • One-time or several visits through fall
  • Mulch-mowing light leaf cover

Short answer

When should I get leaves removed in Peoria?

Usually once in early to mid November when most leaves are down, and again after the last oaks drop. Don’t wait too long: a thick, wet layer left over winter smothers grass and leaves dead patches in spring. The City of Peoria’s 2026 yard waste pickup ends December 11.

Can I just mow the leaves? A light layer, yes. Mowing chops leaves into small pieces that break down and feed the lawn. Once you can’t see the grass through the leaves, they need to be removed.

Curb rules

Getting leaves picked up by the city

  • Paper yard waste bags only, 30 pounds max. No plastic bags, including compostable plastic.
  • Or a marked 40–45 gallon can, or a 65 or 95 gallon cart with a “Yard Waste Only” sticker.
  • Out by 6 a.m. on your trash day.

How it works

What a leaf cleanup visit includes

  1. Blow leaves out of beds, from along fences and from under shrubs.
  2. Rake and blow the lawn into rows, then vacuum or gather them up.
  3. Bag to city rules, or load and haul away.
  4. Blow off driveways, walks and patios.

Many people pair the last visit with a full fall cleanup: cutting back perennials, a final mow and bed cleanup.
